An important decision Faceplace or Tribes
What is the importance of a name? In the time of Napoleon, around 1811-1812, it was mandatory to confirm or adopt an official family name. However, it is a misunderstanding that we owe our surnames to Napoleon. Before his time, the Netherlands already had been developing an unofficial system for surnames. Even then, a first name wasn’t enough to differentiate someone, so additions were given to clarify the person (also called patronymic).

Meet our member David Mooijaart
This Friday we visit the tribe where the 8th location of Tribes Inspiring Workplaces is inspired on, the Hamar at Utrecht Central Station. We have an appointment with David Mooijaart. While enjoying a cup of coffee David starts talking. David started his own company: HSAprogram on April 1. HSA means Human Sales Action. A second partner, Jeroen Wilmink, has also joined. Sales is a broad concept, that’s why we are curious about what Human Sales Action means.

Cycling with new friends
As you know, I cycle with the Moeke Spijkstra Cycling Club a few times a week. One time we cycle 40 kilometers, another time 80 and at weekends we reach the 120. I think it’s a wonderful sport, a great way to stay healthy and fit, but also definitely an ideal way to connect. And that, we have proved again last Tuesday!

Wind, sunshine or rain At Tribes we’re always having a party
It’s no news that the weather is changeable in the Netherlands. It’s too windy, it’s too cold or too hot, and too wet or too dry: we’re always complaining. The Dutch use the subject to start a conversation: complaining about little things like the weather, forms a connection.

From start-up to scale-up just like the Tour de France
It’s that time again: the month of the Tour! For three weeks, many cyclists fans follow the participants closely, and we talk a lot about the contenders. Even if you don’t like cycling, you can learn a lot from the Tour. Every day, you watch men who fight really hard for victory, one time in the mass sprint, other time in a heavy mountain stretch. Team spirit, mentality and perseverance are beautiful elements that can be used in a start-up phase. I have experienced it twice, with the Moeke Spijkstra Cycling Club and with Tribes.

Coworking increases your ROI
When did you get your best idea? Was that when you were home alone? When you stared at a white paper on your computer for hours? Or was it when you just decided to have a cup of coffee with your companion, "because it would not work this time?" Exactly. Just when you start your lonely mime and chat with another person, you get that new insight.
